Critical thinking

What defines us as individuals is our ability to make decisions.

  • When to wake up in the morning.
  • What to have for breakfast.
  • The route you take to work...

Decisions can be random, based on data, or personal preference. Decision making can be systematic with the assessment the risks for each option.

Critical thinking is about being objective, and considering the possibility of making assumptions. In this world of experts and influencers, presenting ideas that are not backed by experience or data or encouraging potentially harmful activities often does not result in any consequences.

Critical thinking is about:

  • Considering what those promoting messages could stand to gain?
  • Are there conflicts of interest?
  • What are the implications of following or not following what they say?
  • Are they even qualified to make the suggestion?

Expertise has to be proven not assumed.
